    Washing
How to ensure an effective clean in a gentler way
Proper washing practices can help maintain the quality of your textiles while reducing environmental impact.
    Washing cotton
Cotton is highly absorbent, so products that are used every day, like bedsheets, sleepwear and towels, should be washed on average once per week at a low temperature. This prevents natural oils and sweat from staining and damaging the fabric.
    Washing wool
Wool and other animal fibres like mohair have natural anti-bacterial and odour-resistant properties, so don’t need to be washed often, if at all. Typically, dirt and stains will lift off with a spot clean and odours can be removed by airing. If you do need to wash our blankets, we recommend using an environmentally friendly dry cleaning service. Some wool products can be washed by hand in cold water – no higher than 30°C. Always dry flat.

    General washing
Air Tekla products between use to reduce excess washing.
Bedding: Pull the duvet back to air the bed sheet before making your bed each morning. Sleepwear: Hang sleepwear instead of folding it in a drawer or under a pillow.
Towels: Leave hanging and let dry completely between use.
Down: Hang down items in a location with fresh air four times a year. If hanging outside, ensure it is a dry day.
Blankets: Hang blankets in a location with fresh air often.

Always wash with full loads to reduce water waste.

Avoid overloading the washing machine as this can cause increased friction and fibre shedding, plus a less efficient clean.

Remove laundry as soon as the cycle is complete to reduce damp and creases.

Where possible, use mild, environmentally friendly detergents made from organic and plant-based ingredients. These can help maintain the colour and quality of the fibre while reducing water pollution. To further reduce your impact, use less than the recommended dose.

Avoid using bleaches and softeners as these can damage the fabric’s fibres. Towels should never be washed with softeners, as they coat the fibres and prevent effective absorption.

Wash at low temperatures whenever possible. If a deeper cleaning is needed, an additional antibacterial detergent can be added for an effective clean below 60°C.

Always wash light and dark colours separately to prevent colour transfer.

Use a low spin cycle, around 800 RPM, to reduce friction and wear.

Separate products with metal buttons and zippers from other items with a laundry bag to avoid friction and pulling.

Remember to refer to the care instructions listed on the tag of individual items for more detail.
