Artek / Tekla
We’re proud to announce our partnership with Artek, rooted in a shared appreciation for lasting modernist design, launching with an installation of Alvar Aalto’s iconic pieces.
The Tekla Copenhagen store is transformed with archival pieces and the recently launched Stool 60 Kontrasti in an installation that highlights Tekla and Artek’s shared values, alongside the revolutionary wood bending technique developed by Aalto.
The Finnish architect and designer’s furniture was often a byproduct of architectural work, intended for the project’s interiors. Despite this original purpose, his designs quickly made their way into private use through the establishment of Artek, simultaneously bringing Modernism and beauty to Finnish – and subsequently global – homes.
Inspired by Bauhaus school ideas of rational beauty and Thonet’s early wood bending techniques, Aalto transformed furniture production by simplifying construction and ushered in a new era of mass craftsmanship.
Today, the stool model 60 has become an archetype of a stool and is a permanent fixture in design vocabulary. Aalto’s designs centre simplicity, quality and functionality, all qualities we strive to embody within Tekla pieces.
Tekla Copenhagen is furnished with pieces that reflect our approach to design and appreciation of aesthetics. We have long taken inspiration from the functionality and form of modernist design, notably Alvar Aalto, so chose to feature the stool model 60 throughout the store’s interior. We worked closely with Artek 2nd Cycle in sourcing these pieces, as their practical yet joyful approach to heritage chimed with our beliefs about the home.
Through this installation, we further explore our shared values of timeless design, quality and creating beauty in the everyday.
The installation is on display from 7-9 June at Tekla Copenhagen, Vognmagergade 7.
